If you’re anything like me, you like customizing… well, everything.

The best part of owning something, in my humble opinion, is personalizing it. Whether it be my wardrobe, my car, my house, whatever, I love adding a personal touch that communicates a little bit about who I am to the rest of the world and people arround me.

My favorite thing to customize? My Home!

DIY Home Improvement Projects

Do-it-yourself home improvement and renovation projects or ideas have been a great way for me to express my creativity, learn a whole bunch of new skills with hands-on experience, and even add to the value of my home.

Looking for some DIY home improvement ideas and projects of your own? Here are four of my favorites;

Top 4 Easy DIY Home Improvement Projects for Beginners

1. Make Your Front Entrance More Inviting

The first thing your guests will see of your house (unless you blindfold them) is the front entrance. That means it’s your first chance to wow them. Consider installing a new front door, something with real style. Alternatively, you could paint your existing front door an eye-catching color, something that pops against the house itself.

Outdoor light is ideal for brightening up dark nights, while flower boxes make a particularly lovely addition to your windows. On the other hand, if you have a good-sized front yard you could plant some shrubs, flowerbeds, or even a tree instead. Another option if you have lots of room is to build a simple wooden porch. Just the thing for lazy summer gossip sessions over glasses of lemonade.

2. Turn the Living Room Into a Movie Theater

Are you a film buff? Why not finally live out that fantasy about having your own personal movie theater? The living room is a fine place to relax and watch a little TV, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be so much more.

While a big flatscreen television gets the job done, if you really want to capture the feeling of the multiplex, you can buy a screen, build a frame for it, and set up a ceiling-mounted projector for maximum movie magic and East Coast Hardware is the right place to buy such hardware tools. Once you add some built-in shelving to the walls so you have a place to store your DVDs or other media, you can relax on your big comfy couch with a bucket of popcorn and finally be free of the torture of a noisy stranger kicking your seat during all the best parts.

3. Give Your Bathroom a Luxury Makeover

The most popular room for renovations is the bathroom, by far. That’s not surprising. You want to be comfortable when you’re doing your business, don’t you? And what’s more relaxing than a nice hot bath… except for maybe a nice hot bath in a jumbo-sized sunken tub that just so happens to double as a Jacuzzi?

Of course, you don’t have to go quite that decadent. There are other ways to remodel your bathroom with flair: some elegant new sinks and plumbing fixtures, curbless walk-in showers, marble (or faux-marble) countertops, and stylized floor tile patterns are all great ways of making an otherwise unspectacular part of the house into a striking centerpiece.

4. Jazz Up the Patio with a Well-Stocked Bar

If you’re the type of person who likes throwing parties and having friends over, putting in a deck or patio is a great investment. Not only does it make for a great staging area for the get-together, but if you really want to take things to the next level, you can turn it into your own private watering hole.

It doesn’t actually take much. At the minimum, all you need is a simple bar top, some chairs or stools, and a cabinet or fridge in which you can keep drinks. A simple metal sink and a small ice machine or cooler comprise the more practical concerns, which leaves us to consider the fun stuff: theming. Bring a taste of the Caribbean home with a grass thatch umbrella overhead and some wooden tiki decorations, or indulge your inner carnivore by adding a BBQ pit.
